Integrating discrete I/O to Foundation Fieldbus

Smar has launched DC302, a product that allows easy integration between Fieldbus Foundation and conventional I/O’s. This product enables integration between discrete and analog controls using Foundation Fieldbus characteristics : control links, OPC supervision, OLE configuration and links for analog control.

This new product is ideal for connecting discrete I/O to FF line. For example, it can close or open valves accordingly to a tank level, turn on and off pumps or motors, or take a discrete signal from a pressure switch to change a set point. DC302 is 24 VDC powered. It can be installed on a DIN rail in a box in the field, close to sensors and actuators.

DC302 uses Foundation Fieldbus function block concept. Function blocks includes some Boolean logics like AND, OR, XOR, beside flip-flops, timers and counters. For using FF function blocks concept, all FF systems can use it for control strategies configurations, keeping the system homogeneity. As DC302 is link master capable, it can work as back LAS, allowing more flexibility and reliability to the Foundation Fieldbus communication.
