Written by Sílvia Pereira

Training intensification and support for new product development are among the objectives of the Center, to be established at the São Carlos Engineering School.

Profibus International will inaugurate in March its Center of Competence in Brazil, supported with financial resources from Profibus Association in Brazil, and from the São Carlos Engineering School, which offered the physical space for the Center.

“The Profibus International structure encourages the Center of Competence, since Profibus technology is consolidating in Brazil and in Latin America, and we need professional support for the Profibus Association actions,” said César Cassiolato, Profibus Association Brazil president.

The main objectives of the new Center of Competence are to intensify training, provide support for companies in new product development, provide technical support for Profibus manufacturers and users, provide a Profibus permanent show room, allow demonstrations of interoperability of products and show innovations on the progress of the technology.

The São Carlos Engineering School is a São Paulo State University unit and is one of the more respected institutions of engineering teaching in Brazil. “The São Carlos Engineering School was chosen because it was the most receptive school to the idea of the Center of Competence creation. Besides the importance of the physical space for the Center, another factor is the credibility of the institution. On the other hand, the school will also use the Center of Competence Profibus facilities for classes in its industrial automation course”, explained Marco Padovan, Profibus Association Brazil vice president.

“The goal is to transform the Profibus Center of Competence into a concentrator space for information, documentation and technology popularization for the Brazilian industrial sector”, said Dennis Brandão, São Carlos Engineering School professor and Center of Competence coordinator.
