SMAR Attends Netherlands SIS Event

On May 20, 2008, SMAR participated in the “Foundation SIF Technology Demonstration organized by the Fieldbus Foundation at the Shell facilities in Amsterdam.

Over 130 people attended the Shell Global Solution workshop on safety instrumented systems involving the FF-SIS protocol. SMAR supplies the profiles for the pressure transmitters and temperature transmitters.  A demonstration was made on the SMAR integrated equipments that works in SIF (Safety Instrumented Functions). Cesar Cassiolato, Marketing Director and Luis Claudio Borges, International Sales Manager represented SMAR.

The Fieldbus Foundation developed the protocol aimed at improving safety through advanced diagnostics, on-line failure identification and improved operational conditions with reduced costs.   According to Cassiolato, this standard will enable critical plant operation with the addition of advanced diagnostics resulting in decreased process stoppages.  The advantages provide safe and cost-effective maintenance alternatives.

“Operational integrity is ensured through advanced diagnostics and maintenance performed when needed and only if required”, adds Borges. The FF-SIS complies with the IEC 61508 functional safety standard especially for applications with Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3.

The successful event illustrated to participants the true interoperability between various manufacturers, while maintaining the recognized benefits offered by Foundation Fieldbus technology.
