Automated “Toaster” Measures Vegetable Oil Production

One of the most important stages of vegetable oil production is when the oil passes through the ‘toaster’ equipment. The toaster is formed with 4 to 10 dishes that hold the flour used during agitation treatment for solvent removal. The weighing process on each flour dish is normally mechanical, where data is sent to a PLC control system. This procedure is now being automated with the implementation of the SMAR TP290 - Position Transmitter 4 to 20 mA electronic position transmitter. It is a completely digital process, comprised by sensor connection to the Toaster dishes and utilizes a rotary magnet that is integrated to a transmitter.

The TP290 - Position Transmitter 4 to 20 mA line position transmitters are sold with the TP301 - Smart Position Transmitter 4 to 20 mA + HART, TP302 - Foundation Fieldbus Position Transmitter and TP303 - Profibus PA Position Transmitter technologies. Argentina currently has five companies using the Brazilian technology, including Molinos Río de la Prata (Santa Fé), Teminal 6 (Santa Fé), Productos de Maíz (Buenos Aires), Aceitera Gral. Deheza (Córdoba) and Bunge Argentina (Córdoba).
